About Us
The Missaukee District Library was created in 1998, but its history actually stretches back to the beginning of the 20th century. The first library in Lake City was founded by the local chapter of the Federated Women's Club. This ambitious group of ladies raised funds for books, a location above a local storefront, and the day-to-day operations of the library. They were, in fact, the first librarians in the county.
After several moves to various locations in the downtown area, the library was granted its own building in the 1950s. During the 1990s, the library was reorganized as a district library, and the cornerstone of our current location was laid down in 1998. We recently celebrated our 10th anniversary in August of 2009. We held an open house and re-dedicated the Reeder Park Complex located next door.
The library currently has a seven member board of trustees. The board holds public meetings on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Public comment takes place at the beginning and at the end of each meeting. The minutes from each meeting are then typed and available for the community by the end of the following week.
